This week I have decided to cover Feet. I have had so many people coming through the clinic with foot problems lately!

According to Louise L. Hay (Heal your body):
Feet represent our understanding of ourselves, our lives and others.

According to Annette Noontil (The Body is the baramoter of the soul):
Feet represent your direction.
Soooo, basically, look at what the problem is with your feet and what that represents. For eg: if you have poor circulation in your feet, you may literally have "cold feet" about your direction in life.

According to Inna Segal (The secret language of your body):
Problems with the feet represent: moving in the wrong direction, ignoring your intuition, feeling confused, lost, ungrounded or out of touch with reality. Feeling stuck, bogged down or obligated to others, missing the big picture. Indecisiveness. Getting cold feet about a situation.

Now, while we are speaking of Louise Hay I have to share a conversation I has with one of my wonderful clients who has been with me from the beginning of my practice. I have had the priveledge of watching them grow and evolve and become the person that they really want to be.
We were discussing Louise Hay and other self help works and it turns out that we actually have very similar  opinions on them.

Now I am part of the "new age" movement in a way with the work that i do but that doesn't necessarily mean that I follow it all, especially when it comes to "affirmations".

I believe that the 'positive thinking' affirmation brigade can be a little more dangerous than helpful.

Here's why: Affirmations basically ask you to repeat and confirm something that may not necessarily be true for you until your subconscious mind believes them. Now, if you push a feeling deep down and try and cover it up with affirmations and glitter and fluffy ducks, that doesn't necessarily mean that everything will be better for you.

Affirmations do work, don't get me wrong, but they are not a bandaid. I believe that you need to look at the real reason that particluar thoughts and issues continue to come up for you and deal with where they come from before doing any affirmation work.

For eg: If you have broken your leg, repeating to yourself "I am whole and healed" won't really fix the major issue, hospitilisation will.

Now I may sound sarcastic here (I'm a Scorpio people, give me a break!) but that is really my warning.

Here is what I believe works:
When you do have a recurring thought or issue in your life, sit down and work out where it's coming from. Is the thought yours? Does it come from someone else? (society? your parents?) and do you believe it?

These thoughts have been called many things, The Ego, The ID etc, etc. I call it Aunty Marge. Everyone has that aunt who critisizes you and comments on all of your activities (or is it just me?). So when I here an Aunty Marge comment in my head, I take note of what it is, I ananlyse if it means anything or if I need to take it on, and then I let it go and move on, or, I work through it and let it go.

Now this didn't happen overnight. It took me many years to get to this stage and alot of work on myself, and trust me, i'm nowhere near done yet, it's an

evolving process!

I guess my point is, you can't wave a magic wand and make everything go away. That unfortunately is not the reality.

The buck stops with you. What do you want? What would you like to change in your life, because you are the only one who can change it.

GET TO IT PEOPLE!

It's been a while since this article was written so you may have changed your level of understanding about affirmations. If not, I just wanted to say that when a person says them long enough they start to think differently. I used to say that I was rich & never changed. I got really determined & started saying that I was rich & my finances did get better. My son said he was leaving his job so I was upset thinking that the affirmations caused me to lose some support that I had. I kept saying them & my son went into his own business & it has been not only successful for him but he hired my husband & we are doing very well now.

Aunty Marge can be like slow poison! You ignore it initially, but it eventually seeps in and takes over.
